‘The Voice’ Premiere Recap: Gwen Stefani & Blake Shelton Get Cozy
The two, as co-hosts of The Voice, seemed to hit it off nearly immediately and develop an incredibly strong bond in the short time they’d been together.
Turn your chair around: “The Voice” is back for season 12. Chosen wooed all the coaches with his rendition of Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing” and Rice gave an emotional performance of Kelly Clarkson’s “Piece by Piece”. “One is you and the other is Gwen”, Shelton told Hayes while trying to convince him to choose his girlfriend. Stefani admitted that she doesn’t even have the same vocal abilities as Turner. Unsurprisingly, Temple joined Team Alicia. Jesse has had some experience working the professional circuit – he was courted by Prince to tour for The Voice’s Judith Hill in 2015 – but that moment in the sun was short lived.
Brennley Brown is only only 14-years-old, but she was able to audition this season because the age requirements were lowered from 15 to 14.
Fans will recall that Stefani and Shelton started out as co-coaches before they formed a relationship. Whenever an artist wins, so does their coach.
Another young artist, Savannah Leighton from Alabama, sang “Unconditionally” by Katy Perry.
Colleen Hayes/NBCIf you think famous singers spend lots of time hanging out with each another and binging on Netflix, you’re wrong. Shelton turned first, but he was followed by an enthusiastic Stefani, who rushed the stage and immediately threw Shelton under the bus. Adam was jealous, feeling like the third wheel, while Blake even felt like he had to apologize whenever a contestant picked him over Gwen. Ultimately, it’s the East Coast connection and Alicia’s respect for the young lady’s determination that win her over, much to Adam’s chagrin.
Levine said of Shelton, who has been on the show since 2011, “I don’t want this to turn into the Blake Shelton Show”. Keys played a trump card though by serenading Passero with a musical pitch. Everybody knows that country star Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton are close friends, so it is not surprising to see Luke coming on the show as his team’s adviser. She joined Keys’ team. It was a spectacular end to the night.
TooFab’s Madison Brodsky caught an early screening of the blind auditions to “feel the love” of the people sitting in the spinning chairs. Who was your favorite tonight?
