The Voice’s future still undecided as BBC rules out ‘a bidding war’
The Voice United Kingdom has never really done THAT well on the BBC anyway – do you think ITV has what it takes to make The Voice United Kingdom a roaring success?
According to Britain’s The Mirror newspaper, an announcement will be made on Wednesday (14Oct15) confirming that The Voice will remain on the BBC after it won the rights to air it from 2017-19.
This morning it has been revealed that The Voice United Kingdom has been AXED by the BBC in yet another round of spending cuts.
“It was going to be on free-to-air so should the BBC get into bidding wars?”
The BBC will not enter into “a bidding war” for singing talent series The Voice.
Boy George, Paloma Faith will join will.i.am and Ricky Wilson on the judging panel.
It looks like they’ll be no more swivelling chairs on the BBC!
However, ITV acquired Talpa Media in a deal with a pproximately £355 million.
But the future of The Voice has become a political hot potato for the corporation as it negotiates with the government over its next royal charter.
He said: “The Voice has been very popular, but the fact it was contested between the BBC and ITV, the result was to force up the money paid for it”.
It comes as the future of the BBC is being reviewed by Culture Secretary John Whittingdale, who has questioned whether the public-owned broadcaster should be paying tens of millions of pounds for popular shows like The Voice.
Lord Hall, director general of the BBC, defended the programme earlier this year, saying that shows like The Voice have always been a part of the corporation’s history.
“I believe that we should keep fighting for entertainment on Saturday nights on the BBC that reaches a wide range of people up and down the country, from all different sorts of backgrounds”, he said.
The source added: “We have made a final bid that we won’t increase”.
