‘The Walking Dead’ Recap: Daryl Makes New Friends
Fans may remember in the earlier segments that Daryl got separated from Sasha and Abraham. He plays arguably the most popular character among fans, yet until this week’s episode, Daryl Dixon hasn’t had a lot to do this season.
In this week’s episode, we finally got to check in with Daryl (Norman Reedus), Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), and Abraham (Michael Cudlitz). What the heck is going on here? No matter how lethal any of the competitor groups are, they’re all rendered useless if the countless scores of walkers continue to wreak havoc outside the walls of Alexandria. Our team gets split up.
On tonight’s episode as per the AMC synopsis, “Daryl, Abraham and Sasha run into multiple obstacles, including a new threat, while trying to return to Alexandria after a mission”.
“Knowing Jeffrey, he fits perfectly, and I think he will knock this role right out of the park”, Reedus said.
Not only does the incident shake Daryl, but the gunfire appears to break his bike. “We earned what we took”, they tell him.
If we don’t flash back to find out what happened to Rick between that shot of him in the camper and the show instead just picks back up with him at Alexandria, the storyline could just keep going forward and someone in that compound could be looking for help. I mean, I was upset, and we filmed that a long time ago, and I was still upset. With two episodes left this year, I’m sure things will pick up again, but the question is: has the damage already been done?
IGN: Do you think his gut reaction will be to kill them if he does meet them again?
The following morning, still unable to convince D of his identity, Daryl is marched from the woods by his captors, who are on a mission to find “Patty”.
I’m talking of course about Daryl’s crossbow. And every week, when the time comes, they laugh in our faces. This new group – made up of an unnamed brunette, a blonde Justin Bieber look-alike named Tina and another man – thought Daryl was after them for stealing supplies from their community.
Sasha’s thread, on the other hand, struggled to make an impression.
The next morning, Abe goes outside to a bridge where he sees an abandoned military Humvee with a case of RPGs in the back. Not far off from the vehicle, he sees the RPG launcher – which is strapped to the back of a walker impaled on a bridge fence. It was like, “Here, I brought this back, but give me something”. Or is a voice crying for help in the zombie apocalypse just another voice crying for help in the zombie apocalypse? Or could they present a challenge for others in the area? At the end of “Now” Maggie tells Aaron, “I don’t know if he’s alive”. There’s never the impression that a herd of Walkers might set upon their safe haven, it’s literally them just waiting for a ride.
The trio start discussing a mysterious group of people. Well, at least no one needs to worry about that insulin anymore.
As they bury Tina, Daryl goes into recruitment mode.
Carl Grimes, son of Rick Grimes, will most likely lose his right eye in one of the upcoming episodes. After the pair leave, Daryl discovers an abandon fuel truck. They then threaten to kill him and cart him around a forest. Abe, now dressed in a military jacket he found back at the office, seems pretty content about his life now.
“The Walking Dead” airs at 9 p.m. Sundays on AMC. He’s such a beloved character that people may hope things, but that’s what we’re doing.
However, after two relatively underwhelming episodes, The Walking Dead looks to be focusing on a few character building this week.
