The Western Slope Honors Veterans
We celebrate and honor our veterans who have been selfless in what they have sacrificed and given for us.
Beer promised that the Veterans Administration would continue working to serve the veterans who served and sacrificed for our country.
“Well, I wasn’t walking, I was floating”, Jim Bob Smith, an Army Korean War veteran says.
Thousands of veterans and citizens lined the streets of Albany on Wednesday for the community’s 64th annual Veterans Day Parade, the largest of its kind west of the Mississippi River.
The show of support in NY City was strong on this day but many, including Mayor de Blasio, pointed out more needs to be done to address joblessness and homelessness among our nations veterans.
Weber said what happened to Vietnam Veterans when they returned home must never happen to US men and women again.
“When we went on a mission, and we were scared, we would say, ‘Well, it don’t mean nothing, ‘” recalled Retired Sergeant Ken Geromini.
“It’s quite important to us for those that did serve and those that didn’t make it back”, said Joy and Michael Atterbury, who both served during the Vietnam War era.
“Now people are recognizing Vietnam veterans, and I feel that it’s our time to be proud of what we did”, Zurcher said.
Across the country, different events are also billed to honor our veterans. “They didn’t treat us very well when we came back”.
“Your presence here today demonstrates your acknowledgement and gratitude for the generations of military men and women that have served to ensure freedom can endure”, he said. “It’s nice to be appreciated and they really gave us a warm welcome coming through”.
Each Veterans Day, Americans honor military members for their service. World War II Army veteran Rudolfo Magdaleno said he’s grateful he survived the war, but he knows many veterans are struggling.
