‘The Wire’ Cast Reunites At Baltimore Event
(D’Angelo Barksdale), Felicia “Snoop” Pearson (Snoop), Michael K. Williams (Omar Little), Sonja Sohn (Detective Shakima “Kima” Greggs), and Andre Royo (“Bubbles” Cousins), as stated by the Baltimore Sunday.
The monologues focused on the April 27 disturbances that occurred following the death of Freddie Gray in police custody earlier that month, reported the Baltimore Sunday.
Other photos showed cast members coming together for the first time since the show ended in 2008. Last Saturday, the cast gave the residents of the city a voice. “A celebration of the spirit and power of the people of Baltimore” was designed to inspire, engage and uplift the Baltimore community.
However, I wish the cast members would consider the feelings of the rest of Baltimore and hear our stories of sadness and humiliation. “We can’t wait for any more black men to die at the hand of police officers who were acting irresponsibly”.
Actors Dominic West (Jimmy McNulty) and Wendell Pierce (Bunk Moreland) sent in video messages, as did show creator David Simon. “Baltimore has a love-hate relationship with ‘The Wire.’ But that’s sort of irrelevant to how we feel about Baltimore”, Sohn said. “We love it and want to support the people here who are going to have to be super-active going forward if true transformation and change is going to come.” “In the eight years I was here, I saw a lot of positives”.
“The Gray family is very proud of so many things that are shaking and moving in Baltimore”, he said. I saw a lot of potential. “I see a lot of progress being made in a short amount of time, and it’s just a shame that it had to take a tragedy for us to get off our butts”. The cast reunited this past weekend at Baltimore’s signature Artscape event, which is one of the largest public arts gatherings in the nation.
Sohn said the city became woven into the cast’s identity. Former mayor Martin O’Malley – now a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination – denounced the series for what he felt was an unfair depiction of crime, corruption and policing.
