‘The Witch’ Trailer Reveals the Horrors of Colonial New England
Variety: “A fiercely committed ensemble and an exquisite sense of historical detail conspire to cast a highly atmospheric spell in “The Witch, ‘ a strikingly achieved tale of a mid-17th-century New England family’s steady descent into religious hysteria and madness”. Blaming everyone but themselves, the family begins to turn on one another as the mysteries of the surrounding woods starts to unravel. Today the first trailer for the film came online, and it shows just enough to confirm our suspicions that The Witch may in fact be amongst the best scares of 2015.
A24 debuted The Witch trailer on YouTube. Early reports from the iconic film festival claimed the film was paralyzing, terrifying, and completely unnerving, which is exactly what genre fans long to hear.
The Witch hits cinemas next year; its release date is yet to be announced.
All of that’s the good news.
It appears to be a very creepy film, but you may still not be sure whether this tops some of the previous releases that the Inquisitr has talked about, namely Goodnight, Mommy, which has made quite the splash in recent weeks.
The stylish, haunting drama is set in New England in 1630, where William (Ralph Ineson) and Katherine’s (Kate Dickie) strictly devout life sees them largely shunned by their fellow colonials. Unusual events begin to occur, with animals turning violent, crops failing and one of the children disappearing, only to return seemingly possessed by an evil spirit.
