The Witcher 3 Developer Not Likely Being Bought By EA Despite Rumors
Rumours that CD Projekt is in talks with EA over a takeover began with a post from DSOGaming yesterday claiming that a CD Projekt Red employee reported that EA representatives were meeting with the management of CD Projekt, the Witcher 3 developer’s parent company.
Speaking with Eurogamer, co-founder Marcin Iwinski said that while the firm usually refrains from commenting on rumors, due to the viral nature of the story it wanted to nip it in the bud rather quickly.
In other news, CD Projekt RED is also working on a website that will allow players to exchange their GOG code with a Steam or Origin code, depending on which version of the PC game they want to keep supporting. Fortunately, game director, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, went into some minor details about the storyline of the DLC and a possible surprise character.
Now we can all de-stress and move on with our lives. The moment we start becoming conservative [and] stop taking creative risks and business risks, and stop being true to what we’re doing, that’s when we should worry.
Next up for CD Projekt Red is Cyberpunk 2077, although the developer has stated that for now, it’s focused exclusively on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
The Witcher 3 is a modern marvel that wholly exemplifies the studio’s refined posture, offering such incredible depth that we don’t normally see in today’s games. Beacause. “As long as I am here I will be fighting for this not to happen”.
A company like EA would completely choke out creative liberties and turn the Witcher series into a watered-down annual franchise. Then in the first quarter of next year there’ll be an even bigger expansion in Blood & Wine, which should last around 20 hours.
CD Projekt Red is an independently owned game development studio with fans who would not find an EA acquisition amusing.
