The Wiz Live! Delivers for NBC, Draws Social Media Buzz

NBC has just released additional ratings news for THE WIZ LIVE! “We should think it through and figure out what the next choice should be in the progression of, ‘What do you follow The Wiz with so we can keep moving forward and not backward?'”

Captured NBC’s second-highest-rated Thursday in more than five years, since March 4, 2010 (3.5), trailing over that span only 2013’s “The Sound of Music Live!”

There was also good news for Dorothy and friends in the all-important 18-49 demographic; it was up 38% in the category compared to Pan. “Global digital marketing technology company Amobee Brand Intelligence said The Wiz Live! attracted 1.374 million tweets during its three-hour telecast window – more than four times the number generated past year during the live telecast of Peter Pan Live“, Variety reports.

Despite a scene-stealing turn by Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers over on CBS, NBC’s presentation of “The Wiz Live!” delivered solid numbers, giving the Peacock its strongest Thursday night results in almost two years.

The hyper-color musical offered many sensational moments during the broadcast. There was much online discussion about “The Wiz” having an all-black cast from people who may have been unaware that the 1970s-era musical and movie had a black cast, too.
