‘The Wiz Live!’ equals ratings gold for NBC, smashes ‘Peter Pan’

NBC’s third annual live musical production was up 21 and 38 percent from what last year’s Peter Pan Live! averaged, while shy of what The Sound of Music Live!

It was mostly all about the Black excellence being put on display on the television screen thanks to standout performances from Queen Latifah, Amber Riley, Ne-Yo and Shanice Williams, the 19-year-old who portrayed “Dorothy”. NBC drew 11 million viewers to the debut of The Wiz Live! last night.

On a 24/7 basis, 297,500 people sent 1.7 million Tweets about The Wiz Live! on 12/3/15 and 7.0 million people saw those Tweets a total of 135.5 million times.

For “The Wiz”, Zadan and his producing partner Neil Meron turned to bigger names, including Queen Latifah and Mary J. Blige.

TiVo said the show’s top moment for people rewinding and watching again came when the Munchkins told Dorothy to “follow the yellow-brick road”.

There was 102,510 tweets around the cast of The Wiz Live! between 8 p.m. -11 p.m. ET on December 3, with sentiment around those tweets being 29 percent positive, 62 percent neutral, and 9 percent negative.
