Visit the the NBC website for THE WIZ LIVE! for additional details. The network’s first try with “The Sound of Music Live” was a hit, but last year’s “Peter Pan Live” turned in mediocre numbers. And tomorrow night, Thursday, December 3 at 8 pm ET, it’s officially here. No, that’s Fox and it airs on 31 January. We have never heard Aduba sing. Do we believe? What is wrong with you? It won seven Tony Awards including Best Musical.
A 1978 movie version of “The Wiz” starred Diana Ross, Lena Horne and Richard Pryor. I lost both my mother and father and I have a wonderful 10 year old son, Farad who is just the love of my life. This was also in the original 70s musical. That is until the producers created a TV ad campaign featuring the song “Ease On Down the Road”, which attracted huge audiences.
This was a stellar show worthy, obviously, of great accolades and it helped, at the time, to shift contemporary ideologies to the ability of an all-black cast to carry an entire, full-sized show on the Great White Way. If there are enough of those people, that will make this worthwhile for NBC.
“Whenever people talk about it to me, they’re just like, “you gotta kill it”, said Williams.
So will the production be more like the movie or the play? . It’s more amusement. I don’t take it seriously. “The prior two years were successful, and they were very pleased, and we’re happy to do something new with another advertiser”, he said. That’s sort of the over-the-top camp vibe these productions are now known for. Peter Pan with Allison Williams kind of didn’t.
So it’s meant to be terrible?

Harvey Fierstein, who says “The Wiz” was as transformative for him as “The Fiddler on the Roof”, also goosed the tale, filling in the backstory for some characters and making Dorothy, he tells Playbill, less a victim of circumstances. I was happy that this guy [Elijah Kelley] was a part of it because we met on the set of ‘Reds Tails’ and we’ve been brothers ever since.
Not familiar with newcomer Shanice Williams? Her voice still sounds the same from when she was 16.

ZADAN: I would say that Bombshell slowed down a tiny bit because Bob Greenblatt asked us to focus on The Wiz and the moment The Wiz is up and running, to go back and focus on Bombshell. However, the supporting cast is well known.
Wearing pink socks and T-strap dance shoes in rehearsal, she held her own – buoyed by the presence of Mills, who originated the role of Dorothy on Broadway and this time plays Auntie Em.
Now those are some stars of a different color. Known for her role as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren from Orange is the New Black, the angelic turn gives her a wide range to work between.
