The world’s friendliest cities
In Ireland we like nothing better than being told how friendly we are.
Condé Nast Traveler, the luxury travel and lifestyle magazine, has released its 2016 list of the friendliest cities in the world, with Dublin and Galway making it into the top 10 at number three and six respectively.
Travel + Leisure readers picked the Holy City as the No. 2 friendliest city in the world a year ago, behind Galway, a coastal town in Ireland.
Conde Nast, which just published lists of the friendliest United States cities and friendliest cities in the world, created one combined list for CNN.
Charleston, South Carolina, the city where the American Civil War began, took the top spot as the friendliest city in the world.
Sydney came in second place, followed by Dublin in third place.
Then there was “the vibe”.
“The people make the place here”, said one reader of Dublin.
“We had the best recommendations on where to go and what to see from the locals”, said one visitor to Dublin.
When asked about Galway locals one respondent said: “These are the friendliest people I’ve ever met”. (“I’ve never been somewhere with friendlier drinkers.”) “The Irish are so much fun”, and “there’s always a smiling face to talk to”.
“It is the warm welcome and the “craic” here that resonates with our overseas visitors and makes our cities, and the island of Ireland, such a great choice for a short break or holiday”.
