The world’s oldest man, a retired educator from Japan, dies at 112
The native of Minamisoma in the north-eastern prefecture Fukushima prefecture had been to be an agricultural chemistry teacher and principal of public high schools.
He had been named the oldest man by Guinness World Records in August.
He was, by the way, the record holder for world’s oldest man, but not the world’s oldest person.
Momoi, the ex- high school principal and father of five children, died at a Tokyo hospital on Sunday where he had lived for many years.
Momoi was born the year the “teddy bear” was introduced and the “Wright brothers” made their first powered flight. He was born on February 5, 1903.
He enjoyed reading, especially Chinese poetry, and also travelling around Japan with his late wife.
After receiving his certificate, he lightly told reporters “I want to live for about two more years”, according to The Telegraph. He also worked in neighboring Saitama.
According to The Guardian, Momoi associated his long life with healthy eating and lots of sleep. He was very active in the care facility where he resided, practicing calligraphy and actively taking part in recreational activities, reports BBC News.
A local official said. According to his family, his health only began to deteriorate a fortnight ago.
Following the death of Momoi, the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry said that a 112-year-old resident of central Nagoya, Yasutaro Koide, has become the oldest man in Japan.
