The YotaPhone 2 won’t be coming to the US after all
The YotaPhone 2 sports a 5-inch AMOLED front display and an always-on, 4.7-inch touchscreen E-Ink screen on the rear. If the new partner has no problem managing scalability demands and everything else goes as reported by plan, consumers might be able to get a new-generation Yota Phone in the U.S. next year.
Why was the launch cancelled, you ask?
In its announcement, YotaPhone says that delays in both production and delivery of the North American variant of YotaPhone 2 from its manufacturer is the reason it is canceling the launch of the handset in this region.
Yota Devices purportedly emailed a letter to backers of its successful Indiegogo campaign, citing logistical issues that are causing the company to scrap its short-term North American plans, tech site The Verge reports.
This doesn’t mean backers are totally out of luck and their hard-earned money, though.
Those who backed the device through the crowdfunding website now have two options: obtain a refund, or receive the worldwide version of the YotaPhone 2. For those who want the advantages of the always-on rear eInk display with its noted five days of life on a single charge – reading books, quick access to frequented information, etc – the compromise of using HSPA+ might be worth it (it’s not that slow).
What are the specs of the much anticipated YotaPhone 2?
The image used in this article is from The British Gent. Yota alleges its manufacturing partner dropped the ball and wouldn’t be able to deliver the device until significantly after the August time frame promised on Indigogo.
But for now, YotaPhone 2 US launch has been cancelled, but Backers need to check their inbox and choose an option. For those living in the US, this phone will work with major GSM carriers including AT&T and T-Mobile. If you’re not in the US, that’s what you would have gotten anyway. If you were excited to get your hands on the phone, you were not alone as we were just as excited to check it out ourselves.
