Theater shooter James Holmes assaulted in prison
Aurora theater shooter James Holmes was assaulted by fellow Colorado State Penitentiary (CSP) inmate Mark Daniels, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed with the Colorado Department of Corrections on Friday.
The incident occurred earlier this month in a hallway as Holmes and Daniels were being moved in the prison, where they’re both housed.
“Daniels apparently took a couple of swings at Holmes”, she said.
Holmes is now serving 12 life terms plus 3,000 years without the possibility of parole at Colorado State Penitentiary, the highest-security jail in the state. When the correctional officer tried to break up the fight, Daniels, 27, charged at the officer, too; however, nobody was seriously injured in the attack. Holmes was not injured in the incident, which took place while the inmates were passing one another in the hall. Prison officials have not seen the letter, Jacobson said.
Holmes, wearing a helmet, gas mask and ballistic gear, tossed tear gas into Theater 9 of the Century 16 megaplex in Aurora during the first minutes of a midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” in July 2012.
Holmes is in a control unit at the prison. A jury convicted him on all charges.
The inmate, Mark Daniels, will be disciplined for the attack.
Daniels reportedly is serving time for menacing, auto theft, assault and smuggling contraband into prison.
