Theo Walcott believes he can get a £100,000-a-week deal at Arsenal
“If it happens, it happens”.
“I enjoy playing for this club, so I am just letting them crack on with things and I’ll continue playing football”. It’s not in my thought process at all.
He confirmed that Giroud and Walcott would start together, though he did not want to be drawn into a discussion on whether the latter would be fielded on the wing or play up front with the Frenchman. It’s well-documented where I want to play but there’s a lot of competition in that front line. “I can’t let that affect me, I want to do well for this club”.
The forward also scored the opening goal in the FA Cup final last season and kept his goalscoring streak alive by scoring against Everton in the Barclays Asia Trophy final where they beat the Toffees 3-1.
This is Walcott’s first pre-season in two years; a severe knee ligament injury in January 2014 put him on the sidelines and thwarted his efforts of gaining a stable place in the lineup.
“But as I have said before, we are in a league in which it is very hard to know how good our opponents will be at this stage, but it is important to focus on making sure we are as strong as we can be; then, we have a chance”.
Former Premier League manager Ian Holloway praised the way Arsene Wenger handles his transfer business at Arsenal, when he appeared as co-host on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show for talkSPORT.
‘I didn’t want the season to end, ‘ said Walcott.
“It’s my first pre-season for two years now so I want to work hard and get fit”, he added.
“I think successful teams stay together for a long time so I think this team can be very successful”. The belief that players show in you when you score goals, you’re going to get more and more opportunities. “That is all I can do”.
After the departure this summer of Abou Diaby, Walcott has become Arsenal’s longest serving player and is in negotiations over a deal that could potentially take him past his 30th birthday.
‘I enjoy playing for this club.
The 26-year-old, who joined Arsenal in 2006, feels that the current Arsenal squad is one of the best that he has been part of and wants them to challenge for the league title in the coming season.
