These Are the insane, Silly, Cute Emoji Coming to iOS 9.1
Or they will when Apple’s update to its mobile operating system, iOS 9.1, arrives later this autumn.
A batch of new and interesting emojis was approved by the Unicode Consortium in June 2015.
While the continued diversification of emoticons will make communicating easier and more direct, Chris Plante of The Verge brings up a good point – whereas people previously had to get creative to write emoji stories, combining disparate images to create a cohesive narrative, this is nearly making things too easy. Unfortunately, there isn’t a complete list of what exactly is included in the iOS 9.1 update, but Emojipedia claims most come from the Unicode 7.0 and 8.0 rollouts.
The method of adding new emoji isn’t entirely simple.
It’s hoped that iOS 9.1, which will be including the new emojis, will be released some time later this year. The show is stolen by the debut of the one and only middle finger. “You’ll see a ton of new emoji on the keyboard including taco, unicorn, a stop hand, turkey, burrito and block of cheese”, reports the Next Web.
The 9.1 wide release date has yet to be announced. New additions for iOS 9.1 include a robot, a bandaged face and a “nerd”.
We learn L.V. Anderson gets distracted by avian anatomy: I keep getting distracted by how anatomically improbable the emoji is.
To download the new build, which includes support for new emoji characters, users need go to the Apple Beta website and register their iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. There is just nothing like a middle finger emoji, no matter what color or how many skin tones it comes in.
