Things got very heated at the Ronda Rousey v Holly Holm staredown
“We weren’t planning on creating female fighters and then all of a sudden Ronda Rousey came around”. Trying to outstrike Ronda and run. Going into this match, Holly was also undefeated, with a 9-0 record and 6 wins via knockout.
Rousey (12-0) rushed off the scale towards the mild-mannered Holm, got in her face and Holm didn’t back down. Will she go to movies and call it a career?
“For every other girl in the division, it’s easier for them to lose and go home with a paycheque”.
Ronda Rousey: “All I ever really notice about her is during the staredowns and during the weigh-in, she likes to have her hand on the outside”.
At age 28, Rousey already has competed in two Olympics, published her autobiography and is fast becoming a hot property in Hollywood. The ability of the 2008 Olympic bronze medalist to quickly take down opponents and finish them with armbars was legendary.
Holm, 34, fought as a pro boxer from 2002-13, and entered MMA starting in 2011, making her UFC debut in 2014. I have all the respect for her in the world.
I love an underdog, but unfortunately the most intriguing factor of this fight is whether it will last longer than 30 seconds – there is a market for that. And it’s a different approach.
“I would like to wait until UFC 200 to fight again”.
As usual, Rousey wasted zero time angrily racing to the Octagon, while Holm skipped and hopped her way down walkway, looking cool as a cucumber. Rousey put all the blame on Holm for the incident, while calling the New Mexico native “fake”. “And I’m in there for a reason”. “My dream since I was a little kid was to win at the Olympics and I failed twice”. Bovada’s method of victory lines have a Rousey win via submission as the favorite, but a Rousey win by KO or TKO (+275) will likely be a popular betting option.
“Ronda punches massively, even inside”, he said.
The pay-per-view begins at 10 p.m. ET, but the main event of Rousey vs. Holm won’t begin until much later, likely starting close to midnight.
“Fight’s over”, he said, shaking his head.
