Things to Know About Holly Holm, the Fighter Who Defeated Ronda Rousey
Rousey had previously successfully defended her title on six occasions dealing with her opponents easily but she could not handle Holm’s speed or strength. I said this was a good fight.
Elsewhere at UFC 193, Joanna Jedrzejczyk defended her women’s straw-weight championship with a unanimous decision victory over Valerie Letorneau.
Rousey not only got defeated in Melbourne, Australia, she was humiliated from the opening bell as this was not even a contest of mix martial arts.
According to ABC Online, Rousey lost to Holm, a former boxing champion, via a knockout fifty-nine seconds into the second round.
After the loss, Rousey left the stadium to receive treatment for a concussion and facial cuts at a nearby hospital, skipping the post-fight media conference.
Make no mistake, Ronda will be back with a vengeance and she would see to it that, this time around her predictions don’t come to fruition. “She’s the type of fighter that you have to be very, very patient with”.
“She’s been able to win in devastating fashion because she’s imposed her will on other girls”, Holm said of Rousey (12-1, 6-1 UFC).
“Rematch makes sense for sure”, Holm told reporters. In fact, the bookies have her as a favorite should that fight go ahead.
Nearly as well-known for her likeable, outspoken demeanor as for her dominance in the ring, Rousey remains the UFC’s most recognized figure.
Holm (10-0) connected with a perfectly-timed head-kick that dropped Rousey and followed up with two uncontested shots that left the former Olympic bronze medalist out cold on the canvas. “She’s been the most dominant athlete”.
“She was transported (to hospital) because she got knocked out”, UFC boss Dana White said. She is also “depressed”, having suffered a considerable wound in her lip that will require plastic surgery.
