Thirty Killed, 20 Injured in Boko Haram Attack
The attacks, which occurred on Tuesday in the villages of Warwara, Mangari and Bura-Shika in Borno state, left 20 more civilians wounded, AFP reported, adding that the terrorists set the villages ablaze after killing the victims.
News of the attacks has been slow to emerge because telecom masts in the area have been destroyed in previous Boko Haram raids, hindering communication.
Scores of people have been killed and dozens injured after Boko Haram insurgents attacked three villages Nigeria’s troubled north-east region.
Musa Suleiman, another witness, reportedly said that most of the victims were killed in Warwara.
Residents of the villages fled to Biu, 30km away.
All the villages are said to be close to Buratai, which is the home town of Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai.
Last week, Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the deaths of 14 people, some of whom they decapitated, when they raided Kamuya village in Borno state and burnt it down. The village was also partially burned down as the men left.
Nigeria’s government has vowed to end the Boko Haram insurgency by this month but the deadline looks likely to be missed as attacks persist.
Many Nigerians believe the army offensive against Boko Haram to be the reason for these attacks.
Some 20,000 people have been killed and more than 2.5 million others made homeless since the beginning of the Boko Haram militancy in Nigeria in 2009.
“We are sure that with Nigeria’s army operational posture, preparedness and readiness to defend and protect the country from any aggression, be it internal and or external we will surely win the war against Boko Haram and terrorism in general”. The MNJTF was supposed to have been deployed by July but has not been deployed yet.
