This 25-Year-Old Is Making MAJOR History At The Democratic Convention
Hillary Clinton isn’t the only woman making history at the Democratic National Convention.
The Democratic National Convention is set to feature its first-ever “transgender” speaker this Thursday as a man who identifies as a woman is scheduled to take the stage in support of Hillary Clinton.
“She’s a board member of equality DE, she’s a Wilmingtonian, and we couldn’t have a better spokesperson for the transgendered community in the nation than our Delaware’s Sarah McBride”.
PHILADELPHIA ― Sarah McBride has never even been to a party convention. Or, will we be a nation where everyone has the freedom to live openly and equally; a nation that’s stronger together?
McBride made national headlines when she came out as transgender while serving as student body president at American University.
After they met, Andrew was diagnosed with oral cancer, which spread to his lungs and ultimately took his life.
Since then, she says, “I’ve seen that change is possible”, with changing laws and acceptance of trans people.
McBride will focus her speech on the humanity of transgender people and their need for protection from discrimination.
McBride also used Thursday’s speech to put the stakes of the 2016 election in stark contrast. “Knowing Andy left me profoundly changed”, she said. “I believe tomorrow can be different”.
McBride will speak ahead of Chelsea and Hillary Clinton Thursday.
“I’m so proud to stand with the LGBT Caucus and speak out in support of Hillary Clinton, because we know she stands with us”. “I definitely, throughout this last week, have been thinking about the responsibility of the degree that I’m representing the community”. On signing the legislation, Gov. Markell said, “I especially want to thank my friend Sarah McBride, an intelligent and talented Delawarean who happens to be transgender”.
Earlier, Chad Griffin, the campaign president, dissed Trump as a mean-spirited self-aggrandizer with little interest in LGBTQ issues.
The Democratic National Convention is breaking boundaries this week not just with the party’s nominee, but also the representation of transgender people and their rights.
