This act of kindness to a homeless man has gone viral
“I have never seen a smile like the one on the homeless man’s face”, the university student wrote on her Facebook page. My heart went out to him.
Paul Doyle was hailed a hero after he stopped his bus to give a homeless stranger a coat he bought him.
After the homeless man got inside Anna Marie said she heard Paul the driver say he was glad to see the man as he hoped he would be there and then the driver handed him a big plastic bag.
AnneMarie’s story went viral on social media, overwhelming the 19-year-old with friend requests and positive comments.
Speaking on behalf of Mr Doyle, Michael Dornan, Metro driver representative for Unite, said Doyle was a “very laid back, reserved and quiet person” who was “stunned” by all the kind words.
The incredible gesture was spotted by passenger Anna Marie McDaniel who publicly applauded the driver online – leading to him being praised as a “fantastic human being”. After initially refusing to take the coat the homeless man eventually took it from the adamant bus driver. He put it in a bag with a few food.
Do you know bus driver Paul?
‘I wanted him to know how much the wonderful thing he had done had meant to me’.
Student AnneMarie McDaniel took to Facebook to tell the story as it unfolded as she made her way home from St Mary’s College in Belfast.
“We as Union intend to do something on the run-up to Christmas for homeless people, to help them in a few way”. So I spoke to him before I got off the bus.
“My phone has gone into meltdown”.
A bus driver whose kindness towards a homeless man tugged heart strings across Northern Ireland has a history of selfless gestures, Belfast Live can reveal.
He said: “I am an elderly gentleman and I slipped on the pavement when I stepped off the bus and took a nasty blow to the back of my head”. If there were more people like this bus driver in the world it would be a better place.
