This ‘Fierce’ Dressing Room Selfie Sends An Ultimate Empowering Message
While shopping, she experienced a mother and daughter, whom she was standing between inside of Old Navy, pick up a tank top and begin to make fun on the size of the shirt. “Me and so-and-so can fit in this tank top!”
She started off by thanking the company for having adorable clothes in all shapes and sizes.
Rachel Taylor went to a nearby Old Navy in Louisiana to shop for a patriotic outfit for the Fourth of July, because we all know rocking our red, white, and blues is the thing to do.
Old Navy responded to the post, saying, “Rachel, you are incredible”. Rachel couldn’t help but take the moment personally, but she rose above ths situation, grabbed the tank top, and snapped this victorious selfie in the dressing room.
‘Today I was shopping in Old Navy, standing between a teenage girl and her mom, ‘ Rachel explained in her post. That was a convo between kid & her Mom. She didn’t want to let the family’s somewhat ignorant yet unintentionally offensive comments bother her, but their comments really hit home for her. She left the store with a deflated ego and got into her auto where her husband was waiting. That thing is huge!’ she wrote. When she woke up the next morning, her photo had spread like wildfire. She says she sat in the auto and cried for a long time before eventually going back inside to shop.
“I ended up buying that tank top because, it turns out, I look fierce in it!” Think about others before you speak. Since she shared her post on July 3, the image has been shared more than 11,000 times and has garnered over 71,000 likes.
Isolating plus-size women isn’t only hurtful to the shoppers themselves; it removes them from everyone else’s radar, creating an environment that invites total ignorance at best, and body-shaming and insensitive remarks at worst. You go, Rachel Taylor! Many people face these same kinds of devastating encounters on a daily basis, so by sharing her story Taylor spread empathy and support for others as well.
