This husband serenading his dying wife will break your heart
The song, Rosemary Clooney’s “You’ll Never Know”, clearly holds meaning for the lovely couple as Howard, the man, sobs while singing the memorized lyrics to his beloved wife, Laura.
After 73 years of marriage, Howard and Laura are still eager to express their love to one another. I was so happy that I’d captured this moment for my family.
“At family gatherings, it was not uncommon for the two of them to sing this song together, each taking a verse and serenading the other”. In fact, on their 50th wedding anniversary, they sang the same song in a ceremony where they renewed their vows.
Laura is now too weak to sing, which is why in the video she can only say the words to her beloved (at around the one-minute mark) before he chimes in with the rest of the song.
Before singing, Howard assures Laura that she’ll always be his sweetheart.
It has been viewed more than 3.2 million times.
She then said, “I love you, I love you”.
“After posting this video to Facebook, it began to go viral and all the outpouring of love lifted everyone’s spirits… including Grandma’s!”
She also explained that Laura had been well enough to go home after the video was taken, and is spending her final days resting at home. Howard can’t stand on his own, but eager to comfort his ailing wife, he pulled himself out of his wheelchair and stood by her, stroking her face.
In the description of the video uploaded to YouTube Erin talks about her grandparents. As for the feedback, all the love and support we’ve gotten, being around my grandmother, I believe it maybe it had a little bit of an impact of her feeling better.
