This is the fastest wireless carrier in the US
Ope Signal didn’t just rate the fastest wireless carriers in the U.S. It also handed out awards for other accomplishments.
OpenSignal noted that T-Mobile’s LTE network has improved dramatically partly because the carrier has aggressively moved from 2G to LTE, enabling it to refarm 2G spectrum for 4G use. “It’s so good that it’s now on par with AT&T, and it’s closing the gap with Verizon Wireless”.
Open SignalBy comparison, AT&T subscribers have AT&T’s LTE network available for just under 82% of the time, and it looks like that number is trending downwards.
The findings come from an OpenSignal report that pulled data from users with LTE-capable phones and live in areas with 4G networks.
It offer 4G speeds of 15 Mbps, ranking it 29th in the world. If you do end up enrolling, you can keep your Unlimited LTE plan for a minimum of two years, and any other plan for as long as you’re a T-Mobile customer.
The average LTE download speed is now 13.5 Mbps against more than double the average Wi-Fi speeds on smartphone connections.
That said, if you’re on T-Mobile or Verizon and live in a major urban center you’ll often experience speeds well above the average. But the speeds are nowhere near the download average of Singapore, which is nearing 40Mbps.
Chicago and Miami had the fastest recorded speeds in OpenSignal’s tests with Verizon offering speeds around 18.8 and 18.9 Mbps respectively.
T-Mobile’s 700-MHz rollout has given its mobile users some of the fastest data speeds in the US market, according to a report OpenSignal released Tuesday. T-Mobile scored 81.23% for 4G coverage uptime, while Verizon got top marks at 86.73%. Again, Sprint sucks: just 70 percent of its customers can get a 4G connection.
Verizon is still the LTE king among US mobile carriers, but T-Mobile wants to be the heir apparent. This was especially apparent for the US, which as one of the first countries to launch LTE services – along with Sweden and Japan – also posts some of the largest overall LTE customer bases.
Sprint further argued that it provides a better overall value because its prices are lower.
