This Is the Worst Traffic Bottleneck in the Country
It might not be a surprise to drivers but Chicago has the most congested traffic bottleneck in the country.
The study was released by the American Highway Users Alliance whose chairman, former Kansas Governor Bill Graves, is also president and CEO of the American Trucking Associations.
The worst traffic bottleneck in the country is on the Kennedy Expressway between the Jane Byrne Interchange and the Edens Expressway.
It is unclear when the highway bill will be passed in Congress, but secretary Foxx said that he hopes there will be an early “Christmas present” for the American people. According to the report, the value of lost time for this delay stands at $59 million annually – relatively high – reflecting the high wages of commuters in this region. Fixing that bottleneck would likely reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 133 million pounds.
The study focused on the 30 worst bottlenecks in the US and how they impact the wasting of fuel, the economy and the environment. Researchers found that 10 of the nation’s 30 worst freeway bottlenecks are in Los Angeles County, and the U.S.’ second-worst jam is in neighboring Seal Beach.
“We will have a tremendous opportunity to fix the trouble spots that cause motorists and truckers daily frustration, idling engines that waste fuel and emit greenhouse gases”, Cohen said. It estimates drivers lose a total of nearly 17 million hours sitting in gridlock.
On a list of the top 50, local roads ranked at 26, 41 and 44 – I-395 between Washington Boulevard and George Washington Memorial Parkway, I-495 at the Dulles Toll Road and I-395 from Duke Street to halfway between Duke Street and Edsall Road.
