This Mexican Soccer Ad Uses Donald Trump’s Words Against Him
One Mexican television network is now using those comments to hype an upcoming soccer match and the video is wonderful. When the United States sends their people, they’re not sending their best. Every game between the two neighbors is a hatefest, so Azteca Deportes, the Mexican TV channel that’s airing the game, used clips from Trump’s announcement speech to mock Mexico’s USA opponents. Mixed in with the speech are clips from Mexico victories over the United States (including the 2011 Gold Cup Final), El Tri players like Giovani dos Santos excelling in MLS, and USMNT players and fans looking absolutely dejected.
Nevertheless, Azteca 7’s ad ends with Trump plaintively mourning, “The American dream is dead“.
Notably, the ad does not include the part where Trump called Mexican immigrants “rapists” and accuses them of bringing crime and drugs across the border.
Politics aside, Mexico is easily the biggest rival for the US men’s national soccer team.
But with the next big U.S.-Mexico match on the docket for October, when they will do battle in Pasadena with a single ticket to the 2017 Confederations Cup on the line, Mexico has taken the emotional lead in this one.
