This Weekend You Could Catch a Ride in the Ghostbusters Ecto-1
Directed by Paul Feig, “Ghostbusters” stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, and arrives in theaters July 14. But Ghost Mode will be available to Lyft users in New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, and Washington D.C. on July 1-2 from 8 a.m.to 10 p.m. local time.
If you’re running late, in your neighborhood, who you gonna call?
Obviously, there are some caveats, because you can’t just take Ecto-1 out when you please.
The Ecto-1 used in the Ghostbusters reboot (out July 16) is a refurbished 1980 Cadillac hearse, a slight upgrade from the 1959 Cadillac ambulance that Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson drove around in the original.
“The drivers of all the cars will be in Ghostbusters uniforms like the movie, we’ll be playing the Ghostbusters theme song and they’ll all be stocked with Ecto Coolers, the throwback Hi-C drinks, and key lime slime Twinkies”.
Dwight Caines, president, Theatrical Marketing for Sony Pictures, states, “Up until now, you had to be a Ghostbuster to catch a ride in the Ecto-1”.
To request an Ecto, all you have to do is put your Lyft mobile app into “Ghost Mode”. Last year, the company that manages the application signed a deal with Verizon to create a campaign for “Back to the Future Day”. While the trailer wasn’t exactly great, the dislikes seemed to come in more from people upset about an all female cast of Ghostbusters or the fact that the film was being rebooted in the first place.
