Thomas Davis: Forearm surgery included screws, metal plate
Davis was ruled out for the remainder of the NFC Championship Game against the Arizona Cardinals after suffering an arm injury in the second quarter.
Panthers WLB Thomas Davis (broken arm) remains adamant he’ll be ready for Super Bowl 50.
Rivera says the 11-year National Football League veteran may need to wear a brace on his arm similar to the one New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski wears.
Davis was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2015, an honor he and his nine Panthers teammates had to bypass to prepare for the Super Bowl.
“Man, even bigger than me having this opportunity, I want to go out and play for my team because I know I can help the team”, said Davis, who finished second on the Panthers in tackles during the regular season behind middle linebacker Luke Kuechly.
“I got two weeks to heal up, and I’m going to use every minute of that”, he said. He returned to the sideline with his arm in a cast and a sling and was unable to return to the game. He said immediately afterward that he would be ready for the Super Bowl. “Come on, you know me, right?”
Thomas Davis (forearm) was held out of practice Wednesday, Jonathan Jones of the Charlotte Observer reports.
“If all goes well, it should be something he’ll be able to play with”, Ron Rivera told reporters.
Rivera said if anybody can play through the pain, it would be Davis, who has battled back from three torn ACLs in the same knee to play at an All-Pro level.
“I’m excited for the fact that he has two weeks to get ready and prove to me that he’s ready to roll, which I believe he will, knowing him”, Rivera said. “This is something that if it comes down to a pain tolerance and playing through it, I will be there”.
Davis was dominant early in the NFC title game recording six tackles, including two for losses.
