Thomas Davis Plans to Play in Super Bowl 50 Despite Broken Arm
The Carolina star had surgery less than 18 hours after breaking his right arm in the second quarter of a 49-15 rout of the Cardinals in the NFC Championship game in Charlotte, N.C., on Sunday night.
Though the injuries are very different in nature, Davis has come back from major injuries before, which makes his availability for Super Bowl 50 more likely, according to Dr. Earl. He was finally given his first chance as an National Football League head coach in 2011 taking over the Panthers from John Fox, who is now the head coach of the Bears and was the coach last season of his Super Bowl opponent.
Rivera is the fifth former Bears player to lead their team to the Super Bowl, joining the likes of Ditka, Sean Payton, Jeff Fisher and Jim Harbaugh.
Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis held his right forearm in the locker room as he spoke to reporters following his team’s dominating win in the NFC Championship Game.
“We’ve been doubted. We’ve been slated; all of the above, but yet when you have turnouts like (Sunday) it makes it all worthwhile”, Newton said after the win against the Cardinals.
While it’s tough to see Rivera keeping Allen out of his one Super Bowl shot, that small possibility does exist – for now.
Davis’ wife, Kelly, posted a picture on social media on Monday morning showing her husband wearing a hospital gown and cap. They didn’t let me down. “I’m not missing the Super Bowl”. Davis isn’t too insane about wanting to play, but the question of whether or not he’d be helping the team being out there with one arm is legitimate. The Panthers will take on the Denver Broncos, who beat the 2015 Super Bowl champion New England Patriots, 20-18 Sunday afternoon. He has missed out on a lot of his career due to similar injuries, including tearing the same ACL three times, so it’s not hard to understand the frustration leading up to the biggest game of his career. “We’ll get it figured out, and I’ll be ready in two weeks”. Kalil was injured late in the second quarter. The typical recovery time for a forearm fracture is about four weeks to eight weeks, but Davis’ quick surgery may speed up the time line on that.
