Thompson beats Curry to win 3-point title
“Everybody thinks that, huh?”
Warriors guard Klay Thompson won the three-point contest. “I didn’t care if I had broken knees, I was still going to try to get this”.
Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry wasn’t one of them. Hopefully my brothers, and probably the rest of the world thinks Steph. “But that’s fine. I’ll play the underdog for a night”. Then, he made his last eight shots in the final round and finished with 27 points to take the trophy away Curry in the final round.
We’re guessing this was just a joke, but there’s nothing wrong with a little push and some friendly competition, right?
“Me and him are now like best friends, me and Stuff”, Gordon said.
And of course it came down to these two. Curry missed his first three shots and needed to make his final two to advance out of the first round.
Phoenix rookie Devin Booker was third, with 16 points in the final round.
Curry set the tone in the final, making his first seven shots before finishing with 23 points.
“Back-to-back years for Splash Brothers, it’s pretty cool”, Thompson said. You know, he’s the best shooter I’ve ever seen, so this is a rare occurrence that he loses.
“I’m just happy I caught him on an off night”.
On a day that also saw the East and West NBA all-stars practise and the East beat the West 128-124 in the D-League all-star game, the spotlight switched to individual skills Saturday night. And even his teammates have a hard time keeping their composure when he rips off one of his shake-and-bake dribbles and launches a step-back three from another zip code.
“The way that he finished off that second round was wonderful”, Curry said. He was one of the most animated during the Slam Dunk Contest – a thriller between Orlando’s Aaron Gordon, a Bay Area native, and Minnesota’s Zach LaVine. The pursuit of history and their defence of the crown have added to the intensity of their regular season.
“Four or five years ago, there wasn’t much of an emphasis on putting a loaded field of shooters in”.
He ended it with a between-the-legs dunk from a step inside the free throw line to become just the fourth player to win back-to-back titles.
Minnesota Timberwolves’ Karl-Anthony Towns (32) and Boston Celtics’ Isaiah Thomas compete during the National Basketball Association all-star skills competition in Toronto on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016.
Right now, he’s posting impressive numbers (22.6 points, 4.8 assists) with the Westchester Knicks in the D-League.
