Thompson Erupts for 43 Points in Warriors’ Win
When’s the last time someone said that?
Warriors’ record through 26 games: 25-1.
Thompson’s recent run of play has been a welcome development for a team looking to get less “Steph heavy”. “I can’t wait to see them again”.
Coming off their first loss of the season, the Warriors reminded everyone of how they started the season 24-0.
It wasn’t long after the Golden State Warriors beat the Phoenix Suns 128-103 on Wednesday night that the attention turned to their rematch with Milwaukee on Friday. After the Warriors’ big three, the leading scorers were Brandon Rush and Marreese Speights, with 11 each.
“We didn’t have it tonight”, interim coach Luke Walton said. We got a bucket on it, too. We want him, anytime he gets a rebound, pushing it. If he’s hitting his shots, he should get over 10 points. “You never know in this game”, Wade said. “We all have to do our part”. After being down 36-40 with 6 minutes left in the second quarter, the Warriors went on a 69-25 run over the next 18 minutes. That said, it’s worth noting that the Suns only hit 5-of-22 three-point attempts (23 percent) to the Warriors’ 15-of-32 (47 percent). Klay Thompson and Draymond Green were crucial, and it showed that they are far from one-dimensional.
But nope. They got to the paint and had no clue what to do next.
It was just Thompson’s second game since spraining his right ankle late in the win over the Pacers. Curry poured it on with two 3-pointers, a layup and an assist for a Green 3-pointer. He connected on 10-of-14 shots and two of his five three-pointers on a night when the Warriors shot 52.3 per cent overall and 46.9 per cent from three-point range.
When he sat in the third quarter, Green had tallied a triple double of 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. It ain’t like we’re disappointed about something they did. The zip returned to the Warriors’ ball movement – and with it the daunting explosiveness of their offensive capabilities. And the Suns could only muster 37 points combined, which was nine less than the Warriors had in the third quarter alone.
The revelation came after Sacramento Kings guard Rajon Rondo was suspended one game for directing what the league called “a derogatory and offensive term” at Kennedy after being ejected from a game earlier this month.
In addition, the defense was much improved as they performed well on both ends of the court to get back to their way of playing that proved to be so successful past year.
But, no. After a mediocre first quarter the Warriors on Wednesday night busted through the trap, leaving it in tiny pieces scattered across the floor at Oracle Arena. Suns C Tyson Chandler made his first start since the previous meeting between the teams on November 27.
“I think it was nice to not have a game right away”.
