Thompson: I’m the best shooting guard
The Warriors started the season on a historic win streak and have been virtually unbeatable.
“I’m going to go with myself”, Thompson said to Inside Bay Area when asked to name his top shooting guard in the league.
Thompson was also asked to name the best players in a variety of positions, including point guard.
To be fair, Leung noted Thompson did throw his hands up in the air when saying he was the top shooting guard, suggesting there was an air of joking to the proceedings. Let’s also not forget two young shooting guards who are having breakout seasons, Andrew Wiggins and C.J. McCollum.
Harden (28.5 PPG) and Butler (21.4 PPG) are both scoring at the highest clips in their respective careers, but have lower field-goal percentages and more turnovers per game than last season. Hate him all you want, and yes I know his defense is pretty atrocious, but James Harden is the best shooting guard in the game.
“I have confidence in myself”, Thompson said Saturday. Having two offensive threats like Curry and Harden, combined with the great role players on the team would be unbelievable.
“Despite being one of the tallest players at his position at 6’7”, Thompson grabs only 3.5 rebounds per game, which is 16th among shooting guards, and his 2.5-assist average is good enough for the 14th spot among players on his position.
And there were no surprises as to who he nominated, with Warriors team-mate and reigning NBA MVP Steph Curry given the nod. Curry leads the National Basketball Association with 131 three-pointers and Thompson says he is trying to catch up to that, as he is in third place with 80.
Combined, Curry and Thompson are averaging 51.1 points, 8.9 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game. I can’t say he’s way better than me.
