Thompson says Mozgov’s screen ‘seemed kind of dirty to me’
After the game, he told reporters the play “seemed kind of dirty to me”.
UPDATE (11:47 p.m. ET): Klay Thompson shook off his apparent leg injury but finished with just 20 points in 31 minutes as his Golden State Warriors were blown out, 120-90, by the Cleveland Cavaliers, who now trail the NBA Finals two games to one.
“I don’t get it”, Thompson said of the play. But didn’t make sense to me. Klay Thompson didn’t bother arguing when asked about that label Thursday. Mozgov’s leg didn’t stick out in a way to purposefully clip Thompson’s thigh; he just wasn’t fully set as Thompson was passing through.
“I mean, coach is right”, he said. I’ll be alright – luckily we have the day off. “It’s the Finals. Nothing’s going to keep me out of it”. But I re-watched it. “I don’t know. I’m guarding Kyrie, I’m running full-speed downhill, I just don’t know if he’s trying to set a pick on me in the middle of the key”.
“It seemed kind of dirty to me”, Thompson said.
We will see if that changes how Game 4 is called, given that even outside of this play, Game 3 was largely allowed to go on without too much referee intervention. However, he probably wouldn’t be able to set things straight with Mozgov since Love will most likely return to play for the Cavs in the upcoming game. Rather, Thompson could enter Friday’s matchup with extra motivation, and any potential dust-ups with other Cavs could escalate thanks to this context.
It helps explain why Thompson has 16 offensive rebounds in the series.
