Thousands attend anti-Brexit rallies in Britain
He adjusted his handbag and took the beret off the man on the floor.
Thousands of pro-Europe protesters have been marching in London, calling for the United Kingdom to strengthen its ties to the continent following the Brexit vote. More public consultation is sought before the government starts what are expected to be protracted negotiations.
London, Birmingham, Oxford, Cambridge and Edinburgh all held demonstrations as Prime Minister Theresa May heads to China to work out a Brexit plan with world leaders.
A sea of blue European Union flags filled Parliament square shortly after 13:00 BST, where protesters sang along to The Beatles’ hit Hey Jude, replacing the title words instead with “EU”.
The marches, which will take place around the country, will protest against the referendum vote to leave the EU.
The march had arrived in Whitehall at the time, when a man dressed in black with a bandana covering his face, grabbed the hat and made a run for it down the street.
The pair clashed near Downing Street and then Izzard, wearing high heels, chased the man before he was caught by police who pinned him to the ground.
The author of The Establishment, who is not calling for a second referendum, said he felt it was important the Government was held to account in how it delivered Brexit. “I think the people here really hope that it won’t happen. we’re here to try and overturn this”, he added. No, we just keep fighting.
