Thousands Join Céline Dion To Mourn Her Late Husband
Angelil passed away on January 14 from throat cancer after a long battle with several cancers.
Days ahead of his 15th birthday, Celine Dion and Rene Angelil’s teenage son Rene-Charles Angelil gave a heartfelt eulogy for his late father.
Dion walked into the church first with her youngest sons Eddie and Nelson; her eldest, Rene-Charles, followed close behind helping Dion’s mother Therese as the family arrived at the national funeral for Rene Angelil. I promise you that we are going to live up to your standards.
Standing next to her husband’s open casket with a black mesh veil over her face, the Canadian singer has been shaking hands with hundreds of people offering their condolences.
Angélil’s official funeral is on Friday at 3 p.m. Be sure to keep Celine and her loved ones in your thoughts during that time! “Je t’aime papa (I love you dad)”.
“He was larger than life, but he was also the little boy from Villeray”, Coderre said. “I understood that if he ever left us, I should continue without him, for him”, the message said.
The singer’s family accepted Premier Philippe Couillard’s offer for the government to play a role in the organization of the funeral. A note from Dion written on the back of the card reassured them that she would return to the stage after pausing to grieve.
Angelil wanted his funeral mass to take place in the same church where the pair exchanged their wedding vows in December 1994.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is in Davos for the World Economic Summit, was represented by his spouse, Sophie Gregoire. An insider said that Angelil has been preparing for it in the past months as he did not know when it will happen so he wanted everything to be set.
