Thousands petition Kanye West Pan Am performance | AM900 CHML | Hamilton
Over 10,000 signatures have been garnered pushing for a Toronto performer to replace the American hip-hop colossus.
There’s still a petition out there to get the Pan Am organizers to rescind West’s performance, although as Toronto councillor Norm Kelly noted, there may be bihgger fish to fry.
The poll also found that 30 per cent of respondents would like the HOV lanes to be made permanent, while 57 per cent would not, and 14 per cent didn’t know.
One targeting West’s Ottawa Bluesfest performance earlier this month had no change on the lineup, nor did another calling for West to be dumped as June’s Glastonbury headliner.
While he admitted that he doesn’t “spend every single night at home listening to his music”, the mayor suggested that he’s “smart enough to know that [Kanye]’s a proud product of our music industry here”.
Pan Am organizers confirmed that the best-selling artist will perform at the ceremony on Sunday, July 26, stating simply: “Kanye West. Confirmed”. “Canada abounds in musical talent that is undoubtedly better-suited for this event and should be featured at the closing ceremonies”. A few thought he was confusing West with Toronto rap star K’Naan.
At the end of the video, Tory uses the lyrics to Stronger to help create a fun slogan for his work in the city.
“And Serena Ryder is Canadian, I’m really surprised and disappointed that people forget that, she’s a major worldwide artist”.
“Yeezus, can’t believe I didn’t know @KimKardashian’s husband wasn’t Canadian!”
proclaimed Tory in the accompanying bit of tweet text.
