Three Clemson Players Suspended From Bowl Game
Deon Cain is one of three Clemson players reportedly suspended for the Orange Bowl.
Cain, a freshman, was pivotal in the Tigers offense.
Cain is the biggest loss of the three. Upstate radio personality Price Atkinson first reported the players’ bowl week punishment as a result of a violation of team rules.
Lakip, a senior, was previously suspended this season after being arrested and charged in June for driving under the influence and possession of cocaine.
McCullough, a reserve tight end, saw little action this season and did not have a reception.
Clemson Athletic Department officials had not confirmed the reports as of 10:25 Tuesday night, but head coach Dabo Swinney is expected to address the reports during a Wednesday morning press conference. His absence leaves Clemson with senior Charone Peake and junior tight end Jordan Leggett as the secondary options behind leading receiver Artavis Scott, who has caught 84 passes this season for 805 yards and five touchdowns.
Cain was also suspended earlier this year, as the freshman from Tampa was held out of the team’s game against Miami for attitude reasons.
