Three men who could upstage Spieth and McIlroy
Blame that on Quail Hollow.
According to Deadspin.com, there are a number of reasons to make changes. So it is indeed a very strong field. “I’ve always played well here”. Who could forget South Korea’s Y.E Yang unseating perennial major victor Tiger Woods in stunning fashion in 2009.
The official website of the PGA Tour on Monday named Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama as the No. 1 favorite to win the upcoming PGA Championship. He finished 15-under-par in 2010 and 21-under-par in 2015 – the year of his second Wells Fargo Championship victory.
Now he’s listed at 7-1, and he doesn’t feel much differently. Well, that does happen, but it was a pity because I was playing well and it was putting that let me down. “I think it’s partly to do with the upturn in form that I’ve had over the last few weeks”. His highest finish in the final tournament of the PGA season? Many of them took advantage. But there are differences. That was plenty of time to think about it, to answer to it. It has been a bit of a transitional year.”I feel like everything’s settled”. I think it will be better all around.
“It’s just about being able to adapt to situations quickly and use that to my advantage”, Spieth said, saying his major victories varied greatly compared with the romps Woods enjoyed in his heyday.
Spieth also squandered a five-shot lead with nine holes to play in the defence of his Masters title, but successfully avoided a similar meltdown at Birkdale thanks to a run of birdie-eagle-birdie-birdie from the 14th in the final round. I like PGA Championship setups.
“Yeah, but it’s totally different”, Spieth said. Woods, at the age of 24 years and 8 months, won the 2000 Open Championship to complete a career grand slam.
The 2009 Irish Open champion admits the back-to-back disappointments last month left him feeling under pressure to rescue something from his summer. “Look at what Jon Rahm has done in really his first full year out here”.
But on a rain-soaked Tuesday, only about half of the players took advantage of the change, with many like Rory McIlroy choosing to stick with long trousers.
“But I’m definitely a better player now than the last time I played Quail Hollow”.
Unfortunately the Clara native missed the cut at The Open following a 72 and 78 left him at 10-over following his opening two rounds.
Furthermore, this week’s event will be something of a home game for McIlroy, as Quail Hollow is an important part of his legacy.
The PGA Championship has a history of crowning first-time major winners in recent years, with six of the last eight champions earning their maiden major wins.
