Three Square Food Bank Hosts HUNGER ACTION MONTH This Month

The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri debuted the steel spoon Tuesday to about 30 people.
Companies and individuals will join together to show support through grants, donations, events, volunteerism and social media campaigns to help the 1 in 6 people who face hunger in America – including more than 305,000 people here in Southern Nevada.
Feeding America says it’s always looking for new ways to tell its story, and let the community know it’s out there.
The “Pour It Forward” program is the latest in a rich history of fighting hunger, including Kroger’s Bringing Hope to the Table initiative, an ongoing hunger-relief program that helps bring much needed funds to Feeding America food banks nationwide. Kimberly Kent, special events coordinator for the Food Bank, said it took 11 hours to build.
They will be able to tour the Loveland Food Share facility on Wednesday, September 23, and participate in hands-on volunteer projects, such as repackaging products from bulk deliveries.
Hunger Action Month has a few new activities, including Spoontember, where orange spoons will serve as icons for Hunger Action Month to help raise hunger awareness. Feeding America also supports programs that improve food security among the people we serve; educates the public about the problem of hunger; and advocates for legislation that protects people from going hungry. For every $1 donated to food banks, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation will give $2 more.

According to a 2013 survey by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, on average, 16.9 percent of Missouri households experienced food insecurity between 2011 and 2013.
Food Lion is also holding its first Great Pantry Makeover, in which the company plans to donate one million meals.
