Colton Steinhauer, 27, was also charged with one count each of possession of a weapon, possession of a loaded prohibited restricted firearm, and possessing a prohibited firearm.
Police in Edmonton say three people, including a 13-year-old, face first degree murder charges in connection with a pair of convenience store holdups that left two clerks dead.
The second employee was found dead in the back room of the second store by a delivery man. The 41-year-old man, whose name is not being released until family can be notified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cenabre and Karanpal Singh Bhangu, 35, were gunned down at their jobs at two Mac’s convenience stores early Friday. Police then performed the usual three calls to make sure it was not a false alarm.
“He (the responding officer) called for assistance and a second patrol vehicle arrived shortly thereafter”. Officers found the injured clerk and began CPR until paramedics could take over. The victim was rushed to hospital where he died. A citizen called 911 after finding the store clerk injured and bleeding on the floor. Officers were also directed to check on other Macs stores if possible.
The first robbery happened about 3-30 with the suspects shooting a man inside a Mac’s store. Police approached the vehicle and the suspects fled.
Arrests were made after a brief police chase along Whitemud Drive, a major city freeway, that ended underneath an overpass when the suspect vehicle crashed.
