Three Things from the Seahawks’ win over Pittsburgh
Shead responded well and had a good game against an excellent receiver in Martavis Bryant, including a key breakup on a deep ball that may have won the game for Pittsburgh late.
The crowd reacts as Seahawks’ Richard Sherman intercepts a 2-point conversion attempt intended for Steelers’ Antonio Brown the fourth quarter of Seattle’s game against Pittsburgh, Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015. The normally brash, unapologetic, and roundly despised outside of Seattle Richard Sherman has become too calm and collected, too nice, and many take that as a microcosm for the issues facing the whole team. Carr finished with 330 yards and three TDs in his sixth 300-yard passing game this season.
But if Roethlisberger is healthy and stays healthy, the Steelers will have a good chance to win four of their final five games, if not all five. Obviously, he’s a great cornerback. “It was a great matchup all day long”. Sherman is accepted as one of the game’s finest corners.
“I don’t guard small receivers well”, Sherman deadpanned to reporters from the victorious locker room. When you’re done you want to be a father and a husband and be the best I can be.
-COACHING: F. Mike Tomlin gave life to the Seahawks in the first quarter when he called for a fake field goal with his team winning, 3-0. He is long. He is combative. I just went out there. I’ve been really impressed as I have studied him in preparation for this game for his above the neck game, the things that he sees and understands about route combinations and the things he understands about formations and splits.
Even with Bryant returning to play with a backup quarterback in Tony Romo’s absence, he is a major weapon and threat to opposing defenses, and he did very little against Sherman.
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger apparently values another part of his body slightly more.
Wilson threw three touchdown passes to Baldwin, including an 80-yard catch-and-run score with 2:01 left after Pittsburgh had trimmed Seattle’s lead to 32-30. In the four games without Roethlisberger, Brown has 17 receptions for 225 yards.
All of Pittsburgh’s remaining games are against AFC opponents, which means even one more loss could mathematically eliminate the team based on all of the factors that play into which teams earn wild-card berths.
“I have played through many injuries but the brain is not an injury you want to play with”, said Roethlisberger, who believes he’ll play Sunday night against the Colts. I’ve played through a lot of injuries. Pittsburgh’s defense has given up yards by the chunk this year but has survived thanks to an ability to make the splash plays when they mattered. They’ll close out the regular season on the road against an Arizona team that may well have clinched the NFC West title by that time and could be inclined to rest quarterback Carson Palmer and the remainder of its playmakers. “We’ve got to make it happen”. “When you get opportunities like that, it’s hard to swallow the letdown”.
NOTES: LB Ryan Shazier (knee) and CB Brandon Boykin (ankle) did not practice Thursday.
