Three tracked down by police after transport truck rolls over in Vaughan
Three people are in custody after a stolen tractor-trailer containing 40,000 pounds of packaged and frozen cheese sandwiches rolled over in Vaughan on Wednesday morning.
Investigators said the truck was stolen in the area of Steeles Avenue East and Torbram Road in Brampton on Tuesday night. Andy Pattenden of York Regional police told CBC that the area is a popular target for cargo thieves. While officers were heading toward the tractor-trailer, it began to move toward Royal Group Crescent. Police say they abandoned pursuit, but the tractor-trailer then rolled over at Hwy 7 and Hwy. 427.
One suspect was apprehended while fleeing in a auto and the two others were found attempting to hail a cab.
The suspects fled the scene, but were shortly tracked down with help from provincial police.
The three were arrested and have been charged with theft over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
The accused are scheduled to appear in court in Newmarket later this morning.
