Three university students found dead with knife
Upstate NY Geneseo authorities have confirmed that Colin Kingston, 24 a former SUNY Geneseo student murdered his ex girlfriend, Kelsey Annese, 21 along with her presumed new love interest, but actual room mate, Matthew Hutchinson, 24 before then killing himself.
The double murder suicide comes after the end of Kingston’s relationship with Annese, in which the former couple had dated for three years.
The tragic events began to unfold shortly after 5:30 a.m. Sunday in a home not far from State University of NY at Geneseo, Szczesniak said.
Once there, police believe he stabbed both to death with a knife he had purchased “at a local retail store” and brought with him before calling his father, Dan Kingston, and telling him what he’d done.
A spokesman for the Geneseo Police Department told a Sunday news conference that of the three bodies found, one may be a perpetrator.
Szczesniak said this amounts to a great tragedy in a community where everyone knows each other.
Barry Douglas works for the Chilliwack Chiefs and says Hutchinson embraced the club’s community outreach work during his time with the club.
The bodies of Kelsey Annese, Matthew Hutchinson, and Colin Kingston were located in the residence along with a knife.
At least two of them were found in a bedroom and a knife was recovered from the scene, said a law enforcement source with knowledge of the investigation.
Hutchinson played defence for SUNY Geneseo’s hockey team, the Knights, and had an assist Saturday evening when the team defeated Franklin Pierce 6-2 in New Hampshire.
He then reportedly phoned his father and confessed to the murders and threatened his own life moments before he stabbed himself, Geneseo Police Officer Jeffrey Szczesniak told reporters.
The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle reported that Annese was a senior guard on SUNY Geneseo’s basketball team, and had played in a game hours before she died.
Once inside, he found Hutchinson with Annese, he said. He also was a member of the Geneseo Volunteer Fire Department.
Annese was a senior guard on the school’s basketball team and studied education and Spanish, the school said. “The district’s thoughts and prayers are with the Annese family during this hard time”. He was majoring in geography with a business studies minor.
“Matt did everything at the highest level”, Chanler said.
Chandler said he spoke to Hutchinson’s father Monday. Hutchinson wrote an online commentary for the college about his desire to be a full-time firefighter, including a photo of him dressed in firefighting gear. “I just feel so, so sad for them”.
On the basketball side, Kelsey Annese played in a win against Buffalo State about 12 hours before police say she was killed. “I can’t imagine as a parent losing a child who had so many accomplishments already and only had more to gain”, he said.
“The kid was always smiling”.
