Three-year-old Chicago boy accidentally shot dead by six-year-old brother
A three year old boy in Chicago has died after he was accidentally shot in the head by his six-year-older brother, police have said.
About 9:05 p.m. Saturday, Santiago stored the loaded gun on top of a refrigerator in their home in the 1000 block of North Francisco, police said.
A family member carried Eian to Norwegian American Hospital. The medical examiner’s office identified the boy as Eian H. Santiago.
The father of the children, Michael Santiago, has been charged with a felony count of child endangerment.
Guglielmi said that Michael Santiago told police he was a former member of the Spanish Cobras gang and that he had purchased the gun from another gang member for “protection”. He later was transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, where family members gathered as word of the shooting spread. Guglielmi said the gun was not legally registered.
The father is due to appear on bond court on Sunday.
Santiago is accused of knowingly storing a loaded fire on top of his refrigerator.
