Thunder Host Washington On Monday
Russell Westbrook was an efficient, dime-dropping machine tonight, pouring in his seventh triple-double of the season and bringing a 114-98 win over the Washington Wizards to Oklahoma City. Combined with Ibaka, the trio scored 28 of the team’s 36 first-quarter points as the Thunder led by 10. Serge Ibaka had 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting to go with his 10 rebounds.
Westbrook dropped 17 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists on 8-of-13 from the field. The Tribe, who trailed by as many as 18 points in the first half, rallied to take a 41-40 lead – their first since 8-7 – with 13:27 to go.
Washington Wizards guard John Wall, center, reacts after having the ball stripped away by Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant, back, and guard Anthony Morrow, front, during the first quarter of an NBA basketball game in Oklahoma City, Monday, Feb. 1, 2016. Chesapeake Energy Arena grew quiet as it looked like the Wizards were poised for comeback behind the aggressive play of Otto Porter and Marcin Gortat.
Coasting for large amounts of the game after storming out to a 28-14 lead early, the Thunder allowed Washington to get as close as 6 points in the third quarter before Durant and Westbrook did what they’re paid millions of dollars to do. The key to this game will be out-rebounding the Wizards and getting the ball to their two offensive superstars as much as possible. Russell Westbrook tops in assists with 9.9 and in steals with 2.4 per game.
The Thunder made over 52 percent of their shots and the Wizards shot a respectable 47 percent. The all-star point guard and last year’s scoring champion tallied 10 points, eight rebounds and seven assists before halftime. Wittman is also scheduled to miss Wednesday’s game against the Golden State Warriors before returning for Friday’s contest against the Philadelphia 76ers…. The former MVP scored 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting in the first half, which he completed by earning a technical foul as he walked to the locker room for arguing to a referee about a foul he believed should have been called on Wall near the end of the quarter.
Thunder: G Andre Roberson is expected to be out for at least a few more weeks with a right knee sprain…. Westbrook made his first five shots….
In Kevin Durant’s last game versus his potential teammates this season, his current point guard stole the show. If it were not for turnovers the Thunder would have 100 points going into the fourth quarter.
