Thursday on TV: ‘Sleepy Hollow’ 2.0 tries to revamp itself
For more info visit “Sleepy Hollow” on Fox.com, “like” “Sleepy Hollow” on Facebook, and follow “Sleepy Hollow” on Twitter. Sleepy Hollow blends 21st-century culture with 18th-century history in a way that doesn’t just make it feel like a genre show.
On tonight’s episode of FOX’s SLEEPY HOLLOW, it’s up to Ichabod to convince Abbie that evil has returned to town.
The Sleepy Hollow story has all the elements of a perfectly creepy Halloween adventure – a handsome woman (Katrina Von Tassel, played by porcelain-skinned Jessica Miesel), an underdog love interest (Ichabod Crane, played by Chris Mayers), and, naturally, a man riding a horse with a pumpkin for a head. We learn more about the bromance between Crane and the Horseman, formerly friends, and see them duke out their differences in a sword fight. Obviously in the case of Abbie, there’s a human being we can look at – her boss Daniel Reynolds; that’s a relationship that began and pretty much went full circle, or at least so she thought, in the past year, so we get to revisit that forward, as opposed to going back in flashback.
We find that Jenny is locked up in Tarrytown Psychiatric hospital for telling the truth about the demon she saw that day in the woods, while her sister never backed up her story (and is guilty about), but Jenny later escapes and joins the team. Crane tries to “take a selfie-graph” with his “mo-byle telephone” and Abbie scolding him to put his damn hands in the vehicle. Before we get too far down that rabbit hole of playing detective for a MIA Crane who may not be actually MIA, let’s get to that synopsis.
The Season 3 premiere excels at setting up an intriguing new mythology, but the most important thing it does is remind viewers how fun this show can be. In his pursuit to save her, Ichabod uncovers secrets about her, leaving him with countless questions. Whereas the fall show started as something to fill the gap between the summer musical and holiday season shows, Clowdus says that it has become a local tradition, and that audiences eagerly anticipate its return. We do, and for a few reason it seems like Tom Mison’s character may be indisposed for this episode.
In addition to moving from its home in North Carolina to Atlanta, the series also underwent a showrunner change, with Clifton Campbell (The Glades) taking over for Mark Goffman this year.
Alive and a key part of the team when it comes to supporting Abbie and Ichabod in their roles as Witnesses. Lastly there will be a Bones crossover episode. So is recurring character Nick Hawley (Matt Barr).
Sleepy Hollow returns October 1 at 9 p.m. on Fox.
