Tiger golf team swings into season with optimism
Pius X Coach Seib shares his team leader’s optimism. Others that saw some varsity time a year ago and are back this season are sophomores Brady Bartes and Jackson Dryhaug and freshman Joe Hulet.
The team has yet to see four solid scores that allow them to finish in the low 290’s in a tournament this season.

Ed-Co averaged 174.86 per nine holes as a team past year, and 347.33 per 18 holes, finishing 3rd in the Upper Iowa Conference. “I’m excited to play and feel that pressure again”.
“Last year I was doing really good, but about two shots cost me”. We are now looking forward to postseason and we will be ready.
The boys go straight to golf practice after school.

Palestine didn’t have any girls’ golfers this year. Although the team started out well, they couldn’t hit many shots as the day progressed. “We’re used to playing with two or three layers of clothes on”.
Vice-captain Karen’s team won the day.
“I have very high hopes for the season”, said Laituri.
Almost every time Kallie Sakamoto steps onto a golf course – whether it’s playing practice rounds together, or swinging for the Washougal golf team, where her dad helps out as an assistant coach – it’s a chance for the Washougal High golfer to spend time with her father, David Sakamoto. On par five holes, NIU finished an overall 11-over-par during the tournament, 14th worst in the field. “It’s a little bit of a different arena for him, playing as a team, but he’ll adjust to it”. There are nine freshmen on the team who could crack the lineup this season.
“We’ve been given the honor to start it out”, said Nicklaus. “It has been many years since we have had a full team competing”. The core includes freshman Leroy White and eighth graders Robert Van Wert and Cody Ufford.
“He said that would be great”.
Two Lancaster High golfers, Brady Hinkle and Trey Crenshaw, each shot a 77 to place in a tie for fifth with five other golfers.
Head Coach Tom Porten said he and the team we’re happy with its effort and early performance. “If they work hard, I think they might even surprise themselves (with how) well they do”. “Everyone wants to come up and say hi and congratulate me”.
