Tiger Kills Keeper ‘On the Spot’ Day Before Meeting of Zoo Brass
The Sumatran tiger killed the keeper, who had caring for the tigers at the zoo in Wroclaw for about 15 years, during what was believed to be a routine cleaning of the enclosure, reported Sky News. Prosecutors are investigating the accident. The zoo director was to hold a news source conference after Wednesday.
An investigation has been launched to determine whether the keeper, among the zoo’s most experienced employees, had followed regulations on the job, Rynkiewicz said. “It is the saddest day in my life”, he said.
The zoo – which is due to host the annual meeting of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums tomorrow – says it is working with Mr Palka’s family. A minutes silence was observed by delegates.
The keeper, who has not been named died “virtually on the spot” at Wroclaw zoo on Wednesday morning, according a spokesman.
The ferocity of the Sumatran tiger was laid bare when one of the beasts tore through a defective gate and pounced on a young zoo keeper before mauling her to death as she screamed for help.
Could it be that after being around these wild animals for such a long period of time, caution falls by the wayside?
