Tiger Woods blames medications for his arrest on DUI charge
They’ll take stock of Game 1 and remember that they benefitted from a called-back goal that turned the tide of the game, they scored on a 5-on-3 in the Stanley Cup final – like that happens every day – and they were complicit in one of the best goalies on the planet posting a save percentage of.636. The Predators’ early surge, which included a P.K. Subban goal waved off on an offside review, made it look like Nashville would have no early jitters in their first finals trip.
Pittsburgh goes for its second consecutive title, led by Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. In addition, there was times when Neal needlessly had his stick in the air and not on the ice, a repeated failure to provide a target for his defensemen to advance the puck. Full marks to Jim Rutherford… he worked the officials to perfection before the series and got rewarded with several… ummm… interesting calls and non-calls in the first period of Game One.
So let’s be thankful for the fascinating curtain raiser in the Stanley Cup championship series that pits Pittsburgh’s powerful offence versus Nashville’s stifling defence.
The Penguins won the game 5-3. What ailed them, instead, was how little they managed to generate offensively – save for the back-half of the opening period when they jumped in front. It left the guys from “Smashville” in a new position for the first time since they began their mad dash to the final a month ago: chaser instead of chasee as Game 2 looms on Wednesday night. I thought we played a good game. “So, when you’re playing a team like Nashville that has a balanced attack, you’ve got to have some pushback”. We are talking to Sports Illustrated’s Alex Prewitt and very special guest, the first captain of the Nashville Predators… Murray finished with 23 saves for the Penguins, who used the first coach’s challenge in finals history to wipe out an early Nashville goal and held on despite going an astonishing 37:09 at one point without a shot. The Predators put up nine shots and scored once to cut their deficit to 3-1. Nashville became the first team since the National Hockey League began tracking the stat in 1957 to hold a team without a shot for an entire period during the Stanley Cup Final. He replaced LW Carl Hagelin, who was scratched. The move paid off in spades.
Pittsburgh got an even bigger break with 16.1 seconds left in the first when Rinne stopped a shot by Bonino, only to have the rebound hit Predators defenseman Mattias Ekholm’s leg and bounce into the net to make it 3-0.
In fact, there was a 37-minute stretch in which the Penguins failed to record a shot on net.
“He seemed like he was in a better place”, Begay said. He played his 20th postseason game with the Penguins Monday night, a total that is now more than all but three players under contract with the Hurricanes next season: Jordan Staal (73), Cam Ward (41) and Lee Stempniak (28).
“I didn’t think we were stiff enough in the battle areas”, Sullivan said.
Conor Sheary tallies his first goal of the 2017 playoffs. “But it was a good finish there to get that one from Jake”. But then a young MC in Guentzel rose to the occasion.
“Just trying to use the D as a screen”, Guentzel said.
After all, a team as good as Pittsburgh will rarely be dominated as thoroughly as it was for much of Game 1, and Nashville still couldn’t capitalize and steal a road game.
