Tiger Woods is two shots back, fighting hard to continue season
England’s Paul Casey is a stroke further back in a five-way tie for fifth alongside 2012 victor Webb Simpson, Jim Herman, Australia’s Cameron Percy and 2007 champion Brandt Snedeker.
He did not qualify for the FedExCup playoffs that start on Thursday, so his season is over.
Woods is seeking his first victory since the WGC Invitational in August 2013 as he works his way back from back surgery and a swing revamp.
“I’m just taking it a day at a time”.
“Pretty unbelievable that I got a win but the way I did it”, he said. “Gore circled his first birdie from 11’2” at the sixth to turn 1-under.
That bogey prevented a final Sunday pairing with Gore – who was instead paired with Blixt.
Late previous year, in the aftermath of the U.S. Ryder Cup team’s loss at Gleneagles, Love and Woods were named to the Ryder Cup task force, and their friendship has grown from there one text message at a time.
Love’s putter certainly showed it has plenty of production remaining as he connected from a variety of distances, including a 12-footer for eagle on No. 15 that gave him a lead he never relinquished.
Woods shot a 5-under 65 on Friday to share the second-round lead with rookie Tom Hoge.
Gore’s only PGA Tour victory came in the 84 Lumber Classic in 2005. He has only 15 top-10 finishes in the past decade.
“This is my offseason right now”, Woods said.
Bolt, Gatlin through to semifinals at worlds >> Usain Bolt and Justin Gatlin moved closer to setting up the biggest duel of the world championships, striding into the semifinals of the 100 meters with victories in their heats. That was followed by a bogey at the 12th, and even a storming finish that included four birdies in his last six holes wasn’t enough.
Blixt joined him at 12 under moments later, then jumped ahead with a birdie on the 17th.
A flawless putting performance on the back nine yielded five more birdies to leave him tied for fifth on nine under heading into the weekend.
After Friday’s round, Woods mentioned that he needed to leave more of his approach shots below the hole.
“That hole has gotten me a bunch”, he said.
“A win will take care of that, ” he added.
About the only consolation Woods took from the round was watching his playing partner Scott Brown, ace the par-3 third hole.
Barclays organizers had been hoping Woods could pull off a miracle.
The 18-year-old Ko finished with an even-par 72 to match Lewis at 12-under 276 at Vancouver Golf Club. Alison Lee was third at 10 under after a 66.
The 51-year-old Andrade had eight birdies – three in a row on Nos.
Andrade was at 10-under 134.
Bernard Langer was second after a 71.
DeChambeau, who finished fourth at the Pacific Coast Amateur at Eugene Country Club last month, beat USC sophomore Sean Crocker 4 and 3 at Olympia Fields.
DeChambeau, from Clovis, Calif., faces Derek Bard of New Hartford, N.Y., in the 36-hole final today. “It helps to play better and the atmosphere is incredible”. I wish I had a better explanation for the way I played today, but I just went out and played golf.
